Many visitors are surprised to learn that the building is a working Courthouse, and also an Historic Landmark and community treasure! Completed in 1929 after a 1925 earthquake damaged much of the city, including an earlier Courthouse on the same block, the Spanish Colonial Revival style helped define Santa Barbara's look as the city rebuilt.
Due to COVID-19, the interior of the Courthouse is closed to the public and our docent-led tours are currently unavailable.
Please enjoy our self-guided tours to learn about the history, architecture and artists who created this iconic Santa Barbara centerpiece.
